Troop 236 of Schooley's Mountain, NJ. Our chartering organization is St. Mark's RC Church of Long Valley, NJ 07853 |

| The need for a new scout troop came about when other troops in town had grown too large. So, on September 5, 1986, Troop 236 was chartered with a total of 5 scouts and only 1 patrol! In our second year, we grew to 20 scouts. |

Those original charter Leaders were: Mr. Bruce Anderson, Ms. Clara Bruder (troop treasurer), Mr. Ed Bruder, Fr. Ed Collins and Mr. Charles Galbreth. Ed. Bruder agreed to become the first Scoutmaster with Bill Anderson and Charles Galbreth as Assistant Scoutmasters. The Scouts were James Moon, Mike Falls, Erik Anderson, Jared White, and Tim McGrath. The troop took its first campout on June 20 to the 21, 1987 at Camp Bernie in Califon, NJ. Starting from scratch, we developed our own ceremonies, traditions, and awards. In the beginning, all the boys were young, so there were unusual things like a Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) that was 13 years old. Bill. Anderson took over as Scoutmaster in the fall of 1988 (Mr. Bruder retired back to troop 436 after one and a half years). That year Mr. Haynes joined with his 2 sons and quickly became very active in the troop. Mr. Haynes shared many of the Scoutmaster duties with Bruce Anderson, who kept the title. Bruce. Anderson was an Assistant Scoutmaster for the first year of the troop while he was involved in Cub Scout pack 436 with his son. He agreed to help Angelo Vilardi with being the Cubmaster if he and his son agreed to join T236 the next year in 88’ when he was done with Cub Scouts. In 1990 the Armstrong family moved into Long Valley from New Hampshire and was searching for a troop to join. His 2 sons joined troop 236 because its meetings did not conflict with their swimming schedules. Bill Armstrong eventually took over as Scoutmaster of the troop in 1991 held the position until 1996. Our current scoutmaster is Edwin Modugno Sr. Ed is a carpenter by trade with a great collection of scouting memorabilia that few people take the time to assemble. Presently, Boy Scout Troop 236 serves the boys of Long Valley with an extensive outdoor program which includes at least one High Adventure trip each year. The troop meets on Monday nights in the parish hall of St. Marks RC Church on Spring Lane. |
