What is Venturing?

Venturing is a part of the Boy Scouts of America, but is a co-ed program for boys and girls ages 14 to 20 (13 year olds may join if they’ve also completed the eighth grade). Venturing aims to help young adults mature and develop teamwork and leadership skills through outdoor high adventure and other unique activities.

For more information on what exactly Venturing is all about, this blog post sums it up nicely. For more general information on the Venturing program, please visit USScouts.org.

What Types of Things Do Venturing Scouts Do?

Many Venturing (or Venture) Crews opt for a multitude of High Adventure trips – things like going to Philmont, Sea Base, Sabattis, Northern Tier and even custom trips to National Parks, natural rock climbing walls, islands for scuba diving and more. There’s really no limit to what Venture Crews can do.

Venture Scouts really get to decide what the crew will do and can plan activities accordingly. Adult volunteers merely help with the planning and execution of trips, it’s the teenage crew members who operate and make the executive decisions together.
