This historical battleground is a common destination for the troop, especially in recent years. Near Sharpsburg, Maryland, Antietam was the place where Confederate soldiers invaded the north and clashed with Union soldiers on September 17, 1862. Five days later, President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. When visiting these historic grounds, the troop hikes along an historic trail and sees the fields where the battle took place, in addition to war memorabilia on display in museums there. At the end, scouts earn an historic trail medal.
