The troop has only gone once to High Knoll, also known as the “Philmont of the East.” Like Philmont, the High Knoll Trail involves backpacking to a new backcountry outpost each day. Once at the outpost, participants engage in activities such as horseback riding, black powder shooting, natural rock climbing and rappelling, mountain boarding and pole climbing. All backpacking is done on the beautiful Blue Ridge Scout Reservation in the Blue Ridge Mountains of southern Virginia. The one-week backpacking treks range from 30 miles to 55 miles that the crew decides on before heading out.
