Each year, a select few scouts from the troop attend National Youth Leadership Training at Winnebago Scout Reservation. NYLT is currently held in three sessions – one that lasted two weekends and two that is are full weeklong course. At NYLT, scouts learn how to be effective leaders not only in their troops, but also in their daily lives. Scouts gain leadership, public speaking, planning, and other important skills in addition to working and collaborating with other scouts not from their home troops on various projects and activities. Most of Troop 236’s SPLs attended NYLT before assuming their roles as leaders of the troop – a testament to some of the fine leadership skills developed at NYLT.
